La Primavera Farms began when the Feddes family emigrated to Canada in the 1950s and began dairy farming. It has had many evolutions and is currently primarily a flower farm with commercial cash crops and poultry, and a small Highland beef herd.
The Hardworking Faces of the Farm
Joanne took a keen interest in the farm at a young age and is now the leader of the main crops La Primavera produces today. Joanne continues to explore new products, techniques, and the latest trends. (While occasionally adopting curious ponies). She is the one you talk to if you’re looking for 100 pails of sunflowers for August, and what the main tasks for the field crew are for the day.

Juan has entered into a casual retirement, but can still be called on for deliveries and help troubleshooting and planning the year’s productions. His years of experience (both local and global) continue to guide La Primavera Farms into new territories while ensuring that the flowers, grain fields, poultry and beef are all tended to using current and innovative ecologically-minded methods.

Ashley is the head of specialty cuts. She’s been working on the farm since 2008 starting out in the field crew. She designs bouquets for farmers markets, gathers specialty orders for florists, and (mostly) keeps her Australian cattle dog Penny in line. Ashley is also responsible for social media and you should follow the farm if you want to see what’s blooming or see her photos of the field while she takes her horse out for a ride. She has the answers if you can get peonies in September, (sorry, nope!) and how many stems of scabiosa are available next week.

The field crew is a collection of incredibly hardworking loyal Mexican workers who have been coming to work seasonally on the farm for the past 20+ years, farm regulars who started out as students 10, 20 or even 30 years ago who can do it all, and locals who like a job that gets them outside and using their body even on the days when most people would rather stay in the air conditioning.
